KELVIN K. WU is chief of the Mine Waste and Geotechnical Engineering Division of the Mine Safety and Health Administration in Pittsburgh, PA. He received his B.S. in mining engineering from National Cheng-Kung University in Taiwan and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in mining engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He is a registered professional engineer and a professional land surveyor. Wu also serves as an adjunct professor in the Mining Engineering Department at West Virginia University.Wu has served SME as chair and member of the board of directors of the Pittsburgh Section. He was program planning chair for the Geomechanics unit committee. He has served on Coal Division Health and Safety program planning committee, as publications review chair and was the unit committee chair for 1997. Wu has been a Coal Division representative on the Book Publishing Committee. Wu is currently a member of the Professional Registration Committee and the Rock Mechanics Award Committee.
