Thanks to lots of great support, the National Science Teachers Association Convention, held in Richmond, VA from Dec. 2-4, was a resounding success. We were able to promote the message that mining and aggregate companies support the education of our youth and that we are a resource and a benefit to our community. Many teachers were overwhelmed that we could provide such a wealth of timely information at no cost to them. There were 2,000 science teachers in attendance. I cannot tell you how many times I heard, "I am trying to teach geology now in my class, and I don't have anything like this for my students." The Washington, DC section of SME organized the booth and staff at the convention. And the Virginia Aggregate Association (VAA) and members supported the effort through donations of minerals, time and money.
