Free literature, rocks, minerals, videotapes and other valuable earth-science educational materials were distributed to 4,500 teachers at this year's National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Area Conventions. Teachers often stood in line for more than an hour to gather their mineral kits and complimentary materials from the Minerals Education Coalition (MEC) booth. Feedback from the teachers was overwhelmingly positive as they talked with mineral professionals about the importance of mining to our everyday lives.Four regional NSTA conferences were held in 2000. They took place in Boise, ID, Oct. 5-7; Milwaukee, WI, Oct. 19-21; Baltimore, MD, Nov. 16-18; and Phoenix, AZ, Dec. 7-9.
