Fe literature, rocks, minerals, videotapes and other valuable earth science educational materials were distributed to more than 5,000 teachers at the 2004 National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) regional conferences. Teachers often stood in line to gather mineral kits, the new Cat-erpillar/GEM CD, "Adventures in Mineral Education" and other complimentary materials from the SME Minerals Education Coalition booth. Booth volunteers received very positive comments from all the teachers who received the mineral samples and information on the importance of mining. The SME Minerals Coalition took part in the three NSTA conferences in 2004. The conferences were held in Indianapolis, IN, Nov. 4-6, Seattle, WA Nov. 18-20, and Richmond, VA Dec. 2-4. Each exhibit relied on a local committee to plan and run the booth with support from the national SME GEM Committee. SME members, SME sections, the Women in Mining (WIM) and other volunteer organizations played a vital role in making all exhibits a success.
