Unit Rig pioneered diesel-electric haul truck technology in the early 60's and today continues to lead the industry with its highly successful line of AC and DC haul trucks. TEREX recently provided an alternative to its performance proven line of Unit Rig mining trucks with the addition of AC drive systems to provide increased control and dynamic retarding. The entire line MT Series trucks, from the 120 ton (1096 t) MT 3300AC to the 360 ton (3261) MT 5900AC, have been totally re-engineered. The AC version offers additional advantages in the drive systems over mechanical and DC powered haul trucks. The new AC drive systems provide "wear free" dynamic retarding that can slow the truck to less than 1 MPH(1.6 km/h) without using mechanical brakes. This improved feature significantly reduces friction brake wear and provides a durable drive system that is simple to maintain.
