The 25th International Conference on Ground Control in Mining was held on July 1-3,2006 at the Lakeview Scanticon Resort and Conference Center in Morgantown, WV. The silver anniversary conference was attended by nearly 300 ground-control and rock-mechanics experts who represented mining organizations around the world. The conference series began in 1981, founded by Syd S. Peng, Charles T. Holland Professor and former chair of the Mining Engineering Department at West Virginia University. Peng's vision was to bring together all segments of the mining community, industry, labor, academia, equipment manufacturers and government organizations, to address the ground-control problems facing the mining industry.
