The western Africa nation of Burkina Faso has formally opened its third gold mine in a year. Semafo opened the most recent mine, an open-cast Mana facility named the Mana Mine. It is 270 km (170 miles) northwest of the capital Ouagadougou. It is expected to produce 3.6 t/a (116,000 oz/year) of gold, local mining officials said. "Exploitation of the Mana Mine will bolster the state's budget by an average of 37.3 million dollars per year, in mine royalties and taxes, to which dividends will be added," Mines, Quarries and Energy Minister Ab-doulaye Abdoulkader Cisse said.
