Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has approved a ROMP review of a quarry despite concerns from local residents about dust pollution, traffic, and the effects of blasting. Its sandstone was used in the Olympics. The pennant sandstone from Craig Yr Hesg Quarry near Pontypridd, which planners said was "one of the highest quality sources of skid-resistant surfacing aggregate in the UK", has also been used on road surfacing projects such as the Forth bypass and the Newport Southern Distributor road.
