The Milliard Corporation, (USA) has recently delivered its 10th Twiflex Mill Braking System to the Phoenix project. This advanced braking technology was specifically designed by Twiflex (UK) for today's modern gearless grinding mills and is considered the most powerful modular brake of its type to be used in the mining sector. The partnership between Milliard and Twiflex formed over 50 years ago when Arthur Nicol, the former chairman of Sheepbridge Engineering in England, visited Elmira, NY. He was interested in finding an American company to manufacture a centrifugal clutch made by one of his subsidiaries, and was introduced to the Milliard Corporation. The meeting eventually resulted in Twiflex Limited of England granting a manufacturing license to Milliard and the association was born. The order was placed by AM EC E&C Services, Inc., which was the official contracting entity with Newmont for developing the mine, including engineering, procurement, and construction management. Farnell-Thompson Applied Technologies Inc., a supplier of engineering services to the grinding systems industry worldwide, was responsible for the design of the SAG mill.
