The findings of the Environment Agency Wales' Construction and Demolition Waste survey 2005-2006 were announced in March. Wales produced 12.2Mt of C+D waste during the period but despite relatively high rates of re-use and recycling the survey found that over a million tonnes of waste were disposed of to landfill. Data was collected from 228 demolition, construction, civil engineering and refurbishment companies for the survey, which was funded by the Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) and the Aggegates Levy Sustainability Fund. The survey found that companies could make financial savings by reducing the material ordered on site and by finding out the types of waste that can be recycled and re-used to avoid waste disposal costs. Companies also needed to be more aware of waste regulations such as Duty of Care.
