Continued extraction of stone from the existing quarry, extraction of stone from land to west of the quarry, with provision of screening, landscaping and restoration at Dale View Quarry, Stanton in Peak, by Stancliffe Stone Ltd (now Marshalls Natural Stone) was a major proposal for mineral working which the National Park unanimously approved in July. Approval was subject to referral to the Secretary of State for a judgement as to whether the application should be 'called in'. As the proposal represented a departure from approved minerals policies, the application had been referred to the Authority for further consideration by the planning committee in June. Officers had recommended approval. The key issues considered in relation to this proposal were whether the proposed extension to Dale View Quarry was acceptable as an exception to policies in the Structure and Local Plans taking into account the proposed relinquishment, without compensation, of the existing permission at Lees Cross and Endcliffe; and whether the proposal in that context was considered equitable.
