Somerset County Council has allowed a proposal to extract Camel Hill Stone (White lias) from l.4ha of fanning land near Yeovil. The application proposed that 4,000tpa of stone would be extracted and exported over 21 years.The site would be worked in four phases and the stone processed at a quarry 10km away, also owned by the applicant. Only 50% of the extractable stone would be saleable and waste would be returned to the application site for backfilling and restoration.
