· Retention of an inert materials recycling facility on 1.89ha of Middleton Hall Quarry, Bodymoor Heath, Warwickshire by Hanson Quarry Products Europe Ltd, was approved by Warwickshire CC in April. Waste would continue to be imported to the site at 150,000tpa. Once sufficient waste had been stockpiled it would be processed using a mobile screen and crusher to produce recycled aggregate. Soils derived from the operation would be used in restoration of the quarry. It was proposed to retain the recycling facility for the duration of the quarrying and landfill operations. Middleton Hall Quarry is within the Green Belt where development will only be permitted in exceptional circumstances. The scale of the development and location within the existing site, did not detract from the openness of the locality or prejudice Green Belt policy.· An application for the storage and processing of recycled material at Great Billing, Northampton, by Thomas (Haulage) Ltd was recommended to be refused by Northamptonshire CC in January. Some 6,000tpa of inert waste, largely building materials was involved. The location was deemed inappropriate due to its proximity to a County Wildlife Site, the adverse impact the proposal would have on trees, the visual amenity of the area, the loss of habitats and the compromise of previously imposed planning conditions intended to mitigate the effects of other industrial development.
