In November Dorset CC considered the consultation on proposals from ODPM for the introduction of a new legal power to bring forward the date for the first periodic review of old mineral permissions (see Mineral Planning 101 p.30). Dorset CC welcomed the proposals as a necessary measure to ensure completion of outstanding ROMP applications. In Dorset, 30 older sites were originally identified as requiring initial review under the ROMP procedure; valid applications for review had been received for 26 sites. Dorset CC had determined reviews for 11 of the 26 initial review sites for which applications were made and the applications in relation to California Quarry and Norden Mine had been withdrawn. There are currently reviews outstanding in respect of 12 sites. A further site (Warmwell Airfield) is subject to a review in which discussions are continuing in relation to the nature of previous agreements over the extent of working.
