Proposals by Lafarge Aggregates Ltd for extraction and processing of sand and gravel with restoration to agriculture, woodland and water at Brooksby, were approved in April by Leicestershire CC.The 122.1ha application site was immediately south of the village of Brooksby, bordered to the north by the A607 Melton Road. The site gently drops from its northern perimeter towards the valley floor and Rearsby Brook, which flows through the site. The landuse was a mixture of pasture and arable farmland, with mature hedgerows and trees.
