A revised application by Barker Bros Aggregates on land adjoining Swanton Morley Airfield was considered by Norfolk CC in June. This followed a previous refusal (see Mineral Planning 91 p.47). Member views were again requested, and permission was authorised. The proposal involved extraction and continued processing of 450,000t of sand and gravel at 160,000 tpa from a 12.5 ha site until June 2007. The revised application was an improvement and there was no reason why the impacts of extraction, particularly relating to visual intrusion, noise and loss of amenity, could not be controlled to acceptable levels through the imposition of conditions. The two key issues concerning local residents remained impact of the new extraction area and continued use of the existing plant.
