The main features of humus formation in the zonal soils sequence have been described by Kononova, Aleksandrova, Ponomareva, Orlov, and other Russian and foreign scientists. In particular, it became well known that podzolic soils have a fulvic type of humus and soddy-podzolic, humate-fulvic; down the soil profile, the proportion of fulvic acids increases and they are assumed to be free and bound to the mobile forms of sesquioxides; humic acids have a low optical density. Less studied is the distribution of C_(org) among particle-size fractions in podzolic soils under forests, although this knowledge is required for understanding the sorption properties of soils--the soil as an entity and its individual granulometric fractions. In this research, thedistribution of C_(org) among particle-size fractions has been studied for forest podzolic soils of different rate of hydromorphism, formed on mantle light loams underlain by loamy till. Similar soils on bisequa are rather common in the northwestern andwestern parts of European Russia.
