As has been said in many business disciplines, there's rarely a one-size fits all solution and knowledge management is no different. Each individual in an organization is unique, with variations on their own processes, methods and work systems. Here, Bent Schou defines several knowledge profiles - from "inventor" and "analyst" to "learnmaster" and "activist" - identifying traits and processes that are common to each. Sharing knowledge is a complicated activity, especially if we want to share knowledge generously and efficiently at the same time. The impediments are many and strong, first of all because it's a time consuming and uncertain activity but even more troublesome is the management challenge to motivate and engage employees to spend time to give and take precious knowledge - no matter if it's communicating to colleagues or the company knowledge base.
