A positive sentiment will continue to underpin the aluminium market in the short term and will keep it trading at around $1500/ tonne. The next direction for the aluminium price will greatly depend on how effective the recent smelter production cutbacks, and those in the pipeline, are in balancingthe market. We project that the balance will be achieved in the second half of the year when current production cutbacks hit the market and when demand levels out. However, we do not believe it to have a huge impact on prices until stock levels return to around 5 weeks of consumption, and that will not happened this year.
