After spending 9 years in the Army reserves as an enlisted soldier, my personal goal was to become an officer in the nurse corps. However, the TV series M*A*S*H was the motivator for my lifelong goal of serving my country in a combat situation. It has taken more than 15 years, a break of 7 years in the middle, 2 military organizations, and countless number of volunteer attempts to serve in a war zone. Now, as a lieutenant in the Navy Reserve Nurse Corps, I have 22 years combined operating room experience as a surgical technician and a nurse in a variety of complex specialties. I have used my US civilian trained skills to benefit my military career in Landstuhl, Germany, on the United States Naval Ship Comfort for Humanitarian Aid support and now in Afghanistan. I was overjoyed when I read my military orders. "
