The effect of 5 Lactobacillus strains (L. johnsonii La1 (human), L. plantarum (swine), L. rhamnosus G6 (human), L. fermentum 2I3 (poultry) and L. casei Shirota (human)) on deoxynivalenol (DON) biodegradation was examined. It was found that L. plantarum, L. rhamnosus and L. fermentum were more active than human strain L. casei Shirota. It is suggested that other lactobacilli strains should be tested in this research field and could be used for detoxification of some feeds contaminated minimally by DON.
