NKK has developed a system in which waste plastics are poulverizedby crushing and granulating of lumpy one or agglomerating of filmtype plastics and in- jected into a blast furnace. The plastics areused as a substitute for the coke used in ironmaking. The sys- tem,with an annual capacity of 30000 ton, has been operated from October,1996. It was found that the total recycling ratio of waste plasticsreached as high as 76/100, with 51/100 and 25/100 of material andthermal recycling respectively.
