摘要

Polish conferences on liquid crystals (LCs) (chemistry, physics and applications), organised by LC groups from Military University of Technology (Warsaw, Poland), have always been the significant events for the LC community. These conferences accompanied establishment of physics and chemistry in Poland of the 1970s and 1980s. Later, at the end of the 1980s through the beginning of the 1990s, after the falling of the Iron Curtain, the Polish conferences had played an invaluable role establishing contacts between Western scientists and scientists of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Scientists from the Ukraine, Russia and Belarus will never forget the tremendous help from their Polish colleagues with making it possible to form a joint international LC community at those hard times. During the last two decades, the Polish LC conferences have taken their place in the list of the most important and most wellattended international LC conferences. So it is not surprising that the twentieth anniversary conference was of large interest to scientists all over the world. Nowadays, the conference is organised under the auspices of the Polish Liquid Crystal Society.
