摘要

The dynamic modification of histones is a key process regulating the DNA damage response as well as DNA repair. Following DNA breaks, histones are extensively modified by phosphorylation, acetyla-tion, methylation and ubiquitination in addition to other modifications. These post-translational modifications alter the chromatin landscape that is recognized by specific protein domains creating docking sites for effectors and mediators of the DNA damage response. The canonical example of histone modification after DNA damage is the phosphorylation of H2AX on serine 139 that creates a docking site for proteins harboring BRCT domains such as MDC1.
