摘要

Stylo is a well-recognized ideal pasture legume in tropics which not only gives nutritious protein rich green fodder to the animals but improves the soil fertility also by adding to the soil nitrogen pool through the process of symbiotic nitrogen fixation. Inoculation with Rhizobium has been known to improve productivity and quality of this legume (Pahwa and Patil, 1982). Also, plant nutrients such as sulphur and zinc have been observed to improve the efficacy of legume-rhizobia symbiosis (Subba Rao, 1976). In view of scanty information available in stylo, it was thought appropriate to initiate studies for determining the optimum levels of S and Zn for improving N_2 fixation effectiveness in terms of nodulation, nitrogen uptake and crude protein content in plants.
