Effects of crossing Gentile di Puglia (GP) and Ile de France (IF) sheep (F1 and F2 generations) on lamb carcass conformation were investigated. 223 single birth lambs of both sexes were studied. Half of the lambs were fed on maternal milk and the rest were artificially fed on a milk replacer. Lambs were slaughtered at 35 or 56 days. Slaughter age and feeding system exerted the greatest impact on carcass wt. and both the percentage and composition of various carcass cuts. Artificial feeding led to leaner carcasses with less dissectible fat, together with higher lean/bone ratios, lighter neck and shoulder cuts, less kidney fat and greater kidney, loin and bone wt. Growth performance of F2 lambs was better than that of their F1 counterparts.
