The deputy director of China's State Food and Drug Administration has been dismissed from his position for unspecified suspected "disciplinary violations".The move follows the initiation of an investigation against the official, Zhang Jingli, last month by a disciplinary commission under the central govemment.The body is usually responsible for probing charges of bribery and corruption, although so far no details of the precise allegations against Mr Zhang have emerged.Several other lower level officials at the administration, including one said to be involved in product reviews, have also reportedly been detained under suspicion of irregular practices. Mr Zhang has held the deputy director post since 2003.
