Cyclins represent regulatory subunits of the cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks), a group of serine/threonine kinases that are crucial cell cycle engines. Expression of cyclins at the right cell cycle phase is essential for normal cell cycle progression. Indeed, deregulated expression of cyclins can induce abnormal proliferation, and overexpression of particular cyclins frequently correlates with aggressiveness of human cancers and with poor prognosis.1
