摘要

The 3' untranslated regions (3'UTRs) of messenger RNAs (mRNAs) have long been recognized as the nexus of post-transcriptional mechanisms dictating mRNA localization, translation and decay (Fig. I). Many such regulatory pathways rely on sequence- and/or structure-specific RNA binding by protein or RNA factors to exert control over particular mRNAs. In addition, there is growing evidence that cells are capable of modulating and sensing 3'UTR length on a global scale.2'3 Thus, transcript-specific and transcriptome-wide mechanisms cdmbine to dictate programs of gene expression, recognition of aberrant mRNAs and cellular proliferation, transformation and differentiation.
