India does not have the best agro-climatic conditions to cultivate natural rubber as compared to Malaysia or Indonesia, yet it is the general tendency of the Indian rubber growers to take climate for granted. It is only when extreme climatic events such as droughts, floods, cyclones or unexpected breaks in monsoon rains occur that they wake up to the reality of how seriously climate can interfere with rubber cultivation or human well-being.
