"The Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shall Bridge, also known as the Second Penang Bridge, launched by the Prune Minister of Malaysia on March 1, 2014, is a historic moment for the Malaysian Rubber Board as we provided the supervision and technical aid in the manufacturing and testing of the high damping rubber bearings in the construction of the bridge," says Datuk Dr. Salmiah Ahmad. The bridge is the longest in the world to be installed with high damping natural rubber (HDNR) bearings, an effective seismic isolation system that enables the bridge to withstand far field earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 on the Richter scale. The bridge is also the first in Malaysia to be installed with the Noise Reduction Seismic Expansion joint.
