The alliance between Bridgestone Corp. - the world's largest tyre maker by sales - and its smaller rival Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd. is meant as a collaborative effort to develop new tyre manufacturing technologies and evolve cost-effective procurement of raw materials, company officials have said. The alliance comes close on the heels of reports of Michelin raising its stake in Hankook Tire, setting a precedent of competitors coming together to jointly fight to protect their market share.
