Welding in hull construction is to comply with the requirements of this section, unless specially approved otherwise. It is recommended that appropriate permanent markings be applied to the side shell of welded vessels to indicate the location of bulkheads for reference. In all instances welding procedures and filler metals are to produce sound welds having strength and toughness comparable to the base material.
