New Zealand exporters with the right quality and scale have opportunities in China, but it is a demandi ng market, says Tim Green, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise director for that country, based in Shanghai. NZTE has just opened a fifth office in China in Qingdao in Shandong province. The others are in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and. Guangzhou. Also in the "greater China" area, there is an office in Hong Kong. Unless they are big players, exporters will normally need to co-operate to address the Chinese market, says Tim. He cites a New Zealand chef working in Shanghai until recently who was keen to use New Zealand ingredients, but had to give up because he could not obtain year-long supply.
