The 2004 North Island nashi crop is one of the best to date, despite a very wet and windy February, says New Zealand Nashi Asian Pear Growers Association President, Warren Sexton from Waikato. "The wind did a lot of damage, with wind rub and fruit bl own off trees, but even though the volume of fruit is down the size of fruit is excellent, the best we've had except for the 2002 season. Although a big frost in early October took off all the early flowers quality is as good as its ever been and we're g etting good prices on the local market."
