Recently I was appreciative to have had the opportunity to attend the Irrigation New Zealand conference in Canterbury. At this conference just about every aspect of irrigation was discussed. Firstly, Environment Canterbury is proposing water allocation policies that will limit land use flexibility in the rural sector. Regional Councils are making changes to plans that restrict water allocation to the level required for the current land use. This will impact on those horticultural land uses that use less water than other land uses.
