BEEF BREEDING practices usually focus on producing bigger market animals, a management strategy that means heifers kept for reproduction end up heavier than needed, say University of Guelph researchers. They've found that certain sires can produce calves with different weights, based on gender. And through breeding, they say the best sires for this trait could be picked.
