On 25 April, the European Union published the new Regulation 347/2013, which aims to breathe new life into plans to establish trans-European Energy Networks (TEN-E).~1 This will identify key strategic priority projects and lay the groundwork for better integration of renewable sources in Europe and neighbouring states. It is estimated that Europe’s electricity and gas transmission networks require an investment of approximately ?200 billion over the next 7 years.~2
