This SAMPE Journal has two technical articles featured in it. One that addresses thermal testing of composites and polymers and the other that discusses a design and analysis technology associated with using test data from materials. Traditionally engineers have tested materials in various forms in order to obtain the necessary "material allowables" in order to supply an input to design and analysis software that calculates ultimate analytical performance of the final structure. Typically testing is thus performed in what has been called a "Building Block Testing Approach" as shown in the figure below.
