Composites technology has been on the fringe of any real entry into the automotive marketplace for many years. When I say "entrys" I am talking about actually moving composite materials into high volume production aspects within the automotive industry. Over the years we have seen composite drive shafts, decorative spoilers, windshield surrounds, CNG/NGV tanks, body tructures, etc. - but not in the production quantities that both automobile and material suppliers desire. Carbon fiber material suppliers have often salivated over the idea of actually seeing numerous fiber lines dedicated just to automotive applications - much as they would to numerous structures within the oil and gas industry.
