A key imperative to the development of oil and gas fields located in deepwater is continued technological advances to reduce the development and life cycle costs while maintaining the required high level of safety, reliability and environmental stewardship. Therefore, composite materials are being considered for several water depth sensitive systems. These systems include risers and tethers. The last several years have witnessed phenomenal growth in the development activities of these systems. This paper summarizes the status of development and presents financial incentives to develop composites for these applications.
