Seeking to improve its tactical communications network, the Army tested in May new capabilities for its PRC-155 software-programmable Manpack radio, Nett Warrior radio-linked mobile device and Joint Battle Command-Platform (JBC-P) situational awareness program at Network Integration Evaluation (NIE) 14.2 in Fort Bliss, Texas. Officials with the Program Executive Office Command, Control and Communications-Tactical (PEO 3CT) also examined solutions to better tie together the network, such as a new voice interoperability software client that connects disparate voice technologies, including radios and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones. "For the first time, soldiers are no longer limited to one type of voice platform to communicate across the brigade," said Michael Badger, a senior network engineer at PEO C3T.
