This article looks at some of the issues that might face the forestry sector as a whole if Scotland becomes independent. In doing so the following quotation from Donald Rumsfeld comes to mind:there are no "knowns." There are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say there are things that we now know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we do not know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of our country and other free countries, it is the latter category that tends to be the difficult one.'
