摘要

Indigenous knowledge system offers low coast approach with potentially high benefits. It can also serve as a basis for new initiative. In order to find out modern technologies, culturally compatible, it is very necessary to document indigenous technical knowledge which is based on local resources, ecology and wisdom. The Konkan region of Maharashtra State is having plenty of natural resources. The agro-climatic conditions of the region are congenical for cultivating various rainfed and irrigated fruit crops. Till recent past, the farmers of the region were cultivating these crops by following traditional methods, some of which are still continued due to their proven worthiness. It was felt necessary to understand and record such traditional technologies with a view to provide the base for future scientific research and also to know the rationale behind use of such technologies by the Cashew and Arecanut farmers. Therefore, this investigation was undertaken with the following specific objectives.To document the ITK related to cashew and arecanut crops and to know the rationale of ITK as viewed by the farmers. To make a profile of ITK specialist.
