Innovation in propulsion techniques and speed were hallmarks of the Ninth International Submarine Races(ISR),which were held June 25 to 29 at the Naval Surface Warfare Center's(NSWC)Carderock Division in the David Taylor Model Basin in Bethesda,Maryland.A new world record was set at the event for human-powered submarines,with a speed of 8.035 knots.
