Adm.Thad W.Allen,commandant of the U.S.Coast Guard,recently announced the appointment of Jeffrey G.Lantz as the Coast Guard's director of national and international standards."The Coast Guard's role within the International Maritime Organization is vital to the safety and security of America,as well as ships and professional mariners around the globe," Allen said."We are fortunate to have a person with the qualifications and experience Jeffrey Lantz possesses to represent the Coast Guard within the organization as we work with our international partners to seek solutions to the safety,security and stewardship challenges we face in our last global commons." Lantz currently serves as chief of the Coast Guard's Lifesaving and Fire Safety Standards Division,where his responsibilities have included the safety standards for vessel designs in the areas of structure,stability,electrical,mechanical,control,firefighting and lifesaving,as well as the Prevention-Through-People and Risk-Based Decision-Making programs for the Coast Guard's Prevention Directorate.
