People often ask me,"What is it that causes students to want to participate in the International Submarine Races [ISR]?"The response comes easily to those of us who volunteer and invest time,resources and energy into managing this biennial design competition.The answer can be summarized by the excitement,enthusiasm,commitment and drive exhibited by the students as they work on their submarines.During this time,they are sharing information and jointly solving problems to get their engineering creations off the loading dock,into the water and successfully piloted down the underwater course without a hatch popping off,a fin breaking or a nose cone shattering from an unanticipated collision with the concrete floor of the tank.
