U.S. Sen. Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) stated that she intends to fight on the Senate floor to create new interagency fusion centers, headed by the Coast Guard, to coordinate the interaction of information between different law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the new Department of Homeland Security. These fusion operation centers would oversee information on cargo and passengers headed to U.S. ports.
