When a commercial diagnostic laboratory is used, many steps occur from the time a sample leaves the practice to the time when results are reported. Sample handling and testing methods vary tremendously between laboratories, and each step in the process has the potential to significantly affect results. Key points to consider when selecting a commercial laboratory will be discussed.
