摘要

Let's clear one thing up - an 'accident' is by definition something unpresentable that is not anyone's fault. Yet when we talk about 'workplace accidents' they will be someone's fault in virtually every case, either through poorly maintained equipment, incorrect working practice, or failure to act on information or legislation. So, I shall try not to use that word. Instead, I will endeavour to use 'incident', 'collision' or 'offence'. Safety is a subject that always leads to heated debate. Those who decry its cost of implementation can't argue that a relatively small investment in safe systems and practices is money well spent. There are those who take safety in the workplace extremely seriously and are open-minded and proactive in their approach. On the other hand, there are those who show scant consideration for the lives and health of their employees, risking all in pursuit of profit. The latter group soon see the errors of their way when something goes wrong, which it invariably wills.
